This is an opportunity for students to write their own story, using the standard 'three-act structure'. Over the length of this course, students write a script plan, three scenes and a monologue. The key components of objectives, obstacles and status are emphasised to help diversify writing.
Taking inspiration from the 'three-act structure', each student will create their own storyline and by the end of the course will have written a script plan, three scenes and two monologues. After lesson one, where students are guided through various scripts, the students will discuss their discoveries and decide what techniques they notice that they may wish to use when creating their own scripts. The course then consists of freewriting exercises to inspire creativity and ideas that they can then discuss and share within the group. Using the themes that they have explored in their writing, each student will research their themes further. The importance of research is covered in lesson four. In addition to their script plan, there will be a series of lessons that focus solely on writing scenes and monologues. The key components of objectives, obstacles and status will be taught to help diversify their writing, keeping it fresh and with a deeper understanding of the character and motives behind the writing. Building the confidence to write creatively and understanding the key techniques to create detailed work, with a focus as well as flexibility, is a skill that can be used throughout the student's life and work. This course will be a safe space where each student can write freely and receive positive, constructive feedback.
