Students will not only build their understanding of the sound and style of minimalism, but will also be taught how to hone their critical listening skills to eventually compose and perform their own minimalist music.
Have you ever wondered what minimalist music sounds like? This course is structured using the elements of music and focuses on building students' listening, performance and composition skills in order to integrate all of the skills needed to prepare for a GCSE music qualification. The listening lessons focus on one element in relation to minimalism and allow students to develop their critical listening skills through a series of listening and short written exercises, including a GCSE-style listening test. Each listening lesson is then followed by a practical lesson which sees students applying their knowledge through performing minimalist music and composing their own music in minimalist styles. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive knowledge of the sound and style of minimalism, as well as a completed minimalist performance and composition.
