Course Overview



Understanding the complex and diverse nature of Russia, the Soviet Union and the ideologies they represented is fundamental to understanding why and how the East and West is the way it is today. This course looks at revolutionary movements and focuses on the causes and events of the Soviet Union. Ultimately students will seek to be able to confidently answer how and why the conflict occurred. This course also considers the role of the key individuals and groups that shaped change in Russia and the Soviet Union, and how they were affected by and influenced international relations at the time. By the end of this course, students will develop and demonstrate a solid understanding of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to critically analyse Russia and the Soviet Union. They will have a firm understanding of the key events in Russia and the historical context behind it.
