Ireland's long history is filled with myriad events, from invasions and famines to rebellions and spies. On this course, students will not only expand their understanding of Ireland's vast history but also practise debate.
Many argue that nowhere in the world is history more alive than in Ireland today. Whether it is invasions, political dealings, rebellions both successful and unsuccessful, terrorism, spies, republicanism, land history, or religious history, Irish history during this period truly has it all. Students will be encouraged to think flexibly and debate their ideas. They will develop their comparison abilities which will enable them to make links quickly across a long period of history. Learning historical events ranging from 1774 to 1921 will ensure students are provided with a broad overview of Ireland's history. This course will enable students to analyse and debate topics such as the Famine, the birth of Unionism and the 1916 Easter Rising, including its aftermath.
