How to Learn Songs Properly: For Beginner and Intermediate Drummers

Course Overview

Every drummer will spend their life learning songs and pieces of all shapes, sizes and sounds for all kinds of applications. It might be for fun, for development, for an audition, for a last-minute gig or for a recording project. No matter what an individual's skill level, finding a way to learn songs quickly and thoroughly becomes more and more important. Reading music isn't essential to be able to do this. This concise course for beginner and intermediate drummers is aimed at making less experienced drummers able to start playing the songs they like sooner and to enable students further down the path to listen better and map songs out more clearly to save time. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how the drums interact with other instruments and how they affect the music overall. For beginners, simplified versions of songs help students understand and memorise arrangements sooner to improve their confidence, overall understanding and sense of fun progression. For intermediate students, core concepts will be reinforced, and new ways to listen, interpret and understand songs, parts and arrangements will be presented. For all skill levels, concepts will be demonstrated in a way that can be easily adapted to an individual's current skill level. The overall goal is an enhanced understanding of the bigger picture of a given piece of music and how to develop personal systems to help students progress quicker in their own right.
