Course Overview

This course is aimed at Key Stage 1 students who have passed their phonics screening or are reading at Phase 5 level. They are a fluent sight-reader who can read new words easily, although they may not always understand the meaning of the words they are reading. The aim is to allow for a level of reflection and analysis of their writing by using colour to categorise four basic word types: nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives. Through this consistent reflection, students will begin to understand the different rules of the English language and be able to consistently develop and improve their own work and their own ways of thinking. This course will provide the basis for creating compelling and exciting storytellers. By the end of this programme, students will be fully confident in using adjectives and adverbs in a range of different contexts.
