Course Overview



This course teaches Greek to non-native speakers. It is for students with little or no Greek language knowledge and teaches essential language skills and builds confidence. It is designed to help students communicate successfully and confidently in real-life situations. 'Greek for Beginners' has a focus on speaking, listening, writing and reading. Students will have the chance to practise all four skills. Participants will learn the vowels, the consonants, the diphthongs and the vowel combinations. Through various activities, students will practise how to write and articulate the sounds of the Greek language correctly. They will be taught the grammar rules in order to pronounce the Greek sounds and they will practice reading and writing words by combining vowels and consonants. In addition, participants will learn how to use verbs in the present and past tense through sentence examples. Furthermore, students will enhance their vocabulary (numbers, colours, food, animals, vehicles, family, places, fruits/vegetables and more) through fun, interactive activities. This course will give the opportunity for students to learn basic grammar, vocabulary, common Greek phrases and expressions. Students will also explore aspects of Greek culture and mythology.
