Course Overview

This course is all about developing early skills in mathematics. The ideas explored in this programme will help students develop their confidence in counting and in recognising and using numbers. It will also help with learning how to identify and be curious about shapes, patterns and measurements in real-life contexts. This course will use a number of different methods to keep the learning process for students both fun and educational. Using different techniques should also ensure that if one method does not work for a student, many more can be explored so as to build their confidence. Examples of these include: talking about maths to build their confidence and help them see how maths is used in everyday life, playing games that involve number and counting (like bingo, dice, dominoes and card games) or merely pointing out different shapes whenever possible. These are techniques that students will be encouraged to practise outside of class and parents will find easy to adopt.
