Course Overview

The greatest love story and tragedy ever told? Maybe; but to label 'Romeo and Juliet' so simply would be the real tragedy. Students on this course will discover that this text offers so much more. This programme is aimed at students taking their English GCSE. Therefore, there will be a heavy focus on understanding the text within the structure of the AQA Assessment Objectives. Consistent work on understanding and developing critical responses to the text are vital in order to build confidence in students to start putting their own personal responses and interpretations of the text forward. In the exploratory part of the course, classes will hone skills in quote retrieval, close language analysis, comparing and contrasting skills and group debates. The final part of the programme will approach skills in essay preparation, where participants will have the opportunity to combine all the knowledge they have learnt and move forwards feeling confident in their ability to apply these skills to exam questions.
