Course Overview



The Second World War was one of Europe’s deadliest moments of the Twentieth Century. Understanding the reasons for the war’s violence remains a subject of debate among historians to this day. This history course on Nazi Germany and the Holocaust offers students the opportunity to develop a richer understanding of the rise of fascism in Germany and the devastating events of the Second World War that followed. Moving away from national historiographies, this course encourages students to look at events transnationally and comparatively. This course teaches students to analyse how the Nazis rose to power, whilst exploring the revolutionary aspects of Nazi rule as well as the Third Reich’s economic and imperial goals. The Holocaust is examined in its entirety, including the circumstances that made it possible and its various methods of violence. By the end of this course, students have a deep understanding of Nazi Germany and how the Holocaust came to be.
