About Patrick F

I am an education enthusiast who became excited by the prospect of learning when most of my formal education was behind me. I struggled at school with concentration and dyslexia. Since leaving school, I have become fascinated by which learning strategies can be used most effectively no matter who you are.

I am passionate about the science of learning. The ethos of Barack Rosenshine and John Dunlosky has inspired how I think about teaching and the strategies I use.

In contrast to the popular belief that every child learns differently, I strongly believe there are simple learning strategies supported by scientific evidence that suggests the opposite is true. Of course, it goes without saying that the delivery of these strategies will be tailored to the individual.

I believe in the value of knowledge retention and supporting efficient studying to produce robust learning. Teaching students how to learn is as important as teaching them content because acquiring both the right learning strategies and background knowledge is important - if not essential - for supporting lifelong learning.

Alongside teaching, I thoroughly enjoy teaching extracurricular activities, and I have a wide range of interests, spanning across all sports to chess and anything entrepreneurial.
