Teaching Experience

Bass Educator at Yamaha Music School Birmingham
I taught Bass Guitar and Music theory lessons to a variety of students on a one-to-one basis helping them develop not only their playing and music knowledge but also helped with their performance and musicianship skills.
2017 - 2018

Private Music Teaching
I have taught bass guitar and theory lessons privately to a range of students and I have provided workshops at Walsall College on a volunteer basis. These workshops have helped develop students' employability skills as musicians covering topics such as music theory, techniques, styles and genres and live performance.

About Charles S

I am currently a full-time freelance musician, and my time is spent between live performance and teaching. I have been a performing musician for over fifteen years but turned professional in 2015. Within that time, I have covered a range of live work in various areas of the music industry, including function, original acts and pit band work. This variety of live and studio situations have allowed me to develop my skills so I can confidently undertake any genre/style of performance asked of me. I've also been able to demonstrate and teach others how to work in these situations effectively.

Alongside my performance work, I have also taught instrumental lessons for Yamaha in one of their Birmingham music schools, provided private music lessons and volunteer group/band sessions in a college. All of these were extremely rewarding experiences, which I would like to hopefully bring to a larger audience.

My current live projects include being a member and musical director of an extremely popular function group (The Lightmen), the Double Bassist of the Swing Town Big Band Theatre Show, and I'm also involved with multiple original acts.

I am a passionate and driven person with a keen interest in music performance and education. My main strengths are my people skills, communication, teamwork and organisation, as these (I believe) to be key skills for the industry.
