About Cecily B

I am currently at Oxford studying English Language and Literature (BA). Alongside my degree, I have absolutely loved acting in several university plays as well as getting involved with journalism. These were also passions of mine at school, where I wrote, directed and acted in plays, and created an illustrated literary publication that sought to get all years involved with creative writing, editing and criticism.

I take great pleasure in working collaboratively to create projects; and feel confident in my ability to both amuse and engage academically with people of different ages and capacities. This ability has been particularly important in my past experience teaching.

Whilst educating, I am careful to tailor my mode of communication to the particular student, trying to make a session as engaging and informative as possible. This may involve introducing a game for younger, more easily distracted students; or bringing in some obtuse reading for those who want to be challenged. My passion for engaging with others is matched by an equal passion for academia (especially for English, History, Philosophy, Art), and I feel that teaching perfectly marries these two passions. I hope above all that whilst teaching I convey my enthusiasm for my subject and instil that enthusiasm (as far as is possible!) in the student. The fact I have participated in so many voluntary teaching programmes is symptomatic of my commitment to inspiring and helping children academically. I hope to pursue teaching (at university or secondary school level) as a career after finishing my degree.
