Teaching Experience

I have five years of experience as a primary teacher, specialising in the EYFS and KS1. I have taught and worked with students of varying backgrounds, including those learning English as an additional language, those with additional needs, and those struggling with mental health.

During my career, I have led and trained others to run several intervention groups focusing on all areas of the curriculum, including Philosophy for Children, developing reasoning skills, and personal, social and emotional development. I have also led courses for parents on how to support their child’s learning.

I am passionate about teaching reading and believe it is the gateway to almost all future learning. When a child begins to read, they begin to learn independently and formulate their own ideas beyond just what they are told. I also believe strongly in supporting children in developing their wellbeing. I love seeing a child’s confidence grow as they grasp a new concept and the joy they gain from their new understanding. I feel truly privileged to be able to support a child in their learning.

About Jennifer S

I trained to teach through the course Teach First which I began straight after university. I fell in love with the job and have never looked back. I am a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher who loves finding new and engaging ways to connect with my students. Whether
this is using fitness activities to support learning times tables, dressing up as an alien to support creative writing, or making individual ‘worry monsters’ to help children discuss their worries, I love using my creativity to spark interest and enjoyment.

In my free time, I enjoy knitting and crochet, growing a variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables on my balcony and playing with my cat. I love reading and am always excited to pick up a new book and experience a new story. I also enjoy cooking and, while my attempts may not always be successful, I find great pleasure in trying new things.

I have been lucky enough to travel to many different places in my life, including spending a month in China on an exchange programme with my university and spending six months travelling across Australia and New Zealand. I adore discovering new places, meeting new people and learning about their lives and interests. I am hoping to investigate more of the Baltic states at some point in the future.
