Teaching Experience

I have been employed as an Educator for 3 years now. My first teaching experience was when I mentored Year 11 students while doing my A-levels. It was a fantastic experience and gave me an idea of what it's like to be an Educator. I have been doing part-time teaching since September 2018. It was certainly a step up from working with year 11s as the primary students I predominantly taught required a lot more patience despite the relatively easier content. I have learnt that with younger students, it is all about how you articulate yourself. During my time, I was able to adapt to the various needs of the students effectively. For instance, teaching students with learning difficulties or where their first language is not English.

About Naema J

I was born in Bangladesh but lived my whole life in Camden, London. During my first year of university, I decided to take on part-time teaching and retail work. Both experiences, despite being quite different, required patience and communication. In my second year of university, I was the president of a cultural society. It was an amazing experience with numerous ups and downs. Still, the most important thing it taught me was the importance of integrity and confidence, and I realised just how important these values are when teaching young students in any subject.

This year, I co-founded a new organisation, Student Association of British Bangladeshis, an initiative to help the Bengali youth engage in academia through culture and charity. I plan to launch a 1-year charity campaign to build academies and libraries in a rural village in Bangladesh. When you have equal access to education, the opportunities to grow are limitless. Hence, teaching is an amazing job: helping the young generation open doors to so many opportunities.
