Teaching Experience

I have taught extensively as a workshop facilitator, using all my skills previously mentioned to lead young people and adults to explore their creativity. I have taught in a professional context with other artists developing their skills. I have also taught in schools to disabled and abled children. I have also taught elderly people chair-dancing sessions and refugees music and rapping. I taught at a summer school in Italy using dance and music to teach English. I have an upcoming contract at NSCD to choreograph the 2nd year students. I have also taught dance at Akomaasa Performing Arts Academy.

About Akeim T

I am an interdisciplinary performer and maker, born in Jamaica and raised in England. My intention is to create moving, thought-provoking, accessible and free-spirited projects. The work I am involved in challenges, enlightens and entertains audiences and participants. Audiences are not just observers; they are implicit in the experience. The work aims to reflect on reality, looking at ongoing socio-political issues, with a humanitarian intention.

Since graduating from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance with a first-class honours Bachelor of Performing Arts, I have been involved in multiple cross-disciplinary programmes with a wide range of artists and communities from around the world. The aesthetic of my work combines expressive skills such as dance, creative writing, film, poetry, beat-box, singing and acting. Fused to create performances that tell stories capable of bridging the gaps between diverse audiences.

My movement interest has a myriad of inspirations, from capoeira, kickboxing, contemporary dance, contact improvisation, Caribbean dance, hip hop, yoga and release technique. My performance focus expands from the physical to vocal expression. Building on an interest in the voice's expressive qualities, with explorations in beat-boxing and vocal improvisation.
