Course Overview

This 5 lesson course will teach students about the Pop Art Movement that flourished in the 1960s. It will focus on influential artist Andy Warhol, whilst also referencing other contributors, such as Roy Lichtenstein. Pop Art was born out of the post-war cultural shift and so this course will also investigate the social, political and economic context of the era. The course will approach Andy Warhol and the Pop Art Movement, predominantly from a theoretical perspective. However, there is also an opportunity for students to make creative responses. There is no requirement for any art or drawing experience, as I will teach alternatives for those less experienced in drawing. The course will include digital handouts with reference images. Pop Art Movement is a great subject to teach this age range. The work of this movement is bold, colourful and incorporates popular culture. This course offers a chance to study classical art.
