Teaching Experience

Originally from Scotland, I attended the Cheltenham Ladies’ College from age 13 where I experienced first-hand what constituted quality teaching. At school, I had a music scholarship, and I am still a very keen musician, having acquired a choral scholarship whilst I was at Oxford. I graduated from Oxford University in 2020 with a degree in English Language and Literature.

During my time at university, I played netball for Oxford and was a member of the OUDS (dramatic society), directing a play in my last year. I then undertook my MA at UCL, in a modern English paper titled 'Issues in Modern Culture'. This course focused not only on literature but facilitated a wider exploration of different media, such as film, music and art. This has been a very rewarding experience, allowing me to explore different avenues of global culture through an academic framework.

I am now on a ‘Gap Year’, undertaking many hours of teaching whilst also working as a part-time member of the Union Education Group team. I have always been an avid reader, however, my desire to study English at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels has been incited by my exposure to exceptional teaching. I have personally experienced the benefits of committed and catered tuition at both school and university and feel equipped to translate this style of enthused teaching into my own role as an Educator. I am excited by the opportunity to see students grow to find confidence and enthusiasm in their academic careers.

About Juliette M

I have been teaching for just over 3 years. This has ranged from students from as young as 4, right up to students in their third year of university. I believe the exposure I have had to these varying stages of education has equipped me with a versatile and flexible ‘tool-kit’ which I approach every new student with.

I also have had a lot of experience teaching students whose first language is not English, becoming well-versed in the appropriate methods to tackle any challenges this may pose. I have found the experience hugely rewarding as I have seen first-hand the pronounced benefits personalised teaching can have on both the student’s ability to tackle their work and to do so with curiosity and confidence.
