Bram Stoker's 'Dracula': Close Reading and Analysis

academic-development

Course Overview

We instantly recognise him: ghostly pale skin, fierce, sharp fangs and flaming red eyes. Count Dracula has been immortalised – both figuratively and literally – ever since he was created by Bram Stoker all the way back in 1897. But what did he represent to a Victorian readership? Was he simply a figment of Stoker's imagination, or was he something more? Why is there such an obsession with bloodsucking? How does the novel's structure create meaning? Is Hotel Transylvania accurate?! We'll be discussing all of this and more on this course. After the course, students will have an in-depth understanding of the text after having analysed it thoroughly.
