This is the first of two practical-based courses, which will guide students through the initial steps of becoming a successful songwriter. Students will explore the most effective tools songwriters use to create lyrics and melodies, whilst gaining an understanding of the basic music theory commonly used in popular songwriting. Relevant to most contemporary styles (such as pop, rock, soul, blues and acoustic) these lessons cover song form, melody writing, setting words to music and chord progressions. After this course, students will have an understanding of contemporary styles and music theory, as well as having an introduction to songwriting.
