Course Overview

How did the United States come to be the most powerful country globally, and will there be any power competition from another country in the future? This course examines this question through the lens of geography, looking at what sets the United States apart from any other part of the world when it comes to its landmass. Alongside setting the United States' rise in both its geographical and historical context, the course will also bring in great power competition, including the rise of China and whether it will be able to displace America from its geopolitical position as the world's most powerful country. In doing so, the course combines the fields of geography, history and international relations to provide an insight into the geopolitical position of America.
