Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë were sisters and writers whose novels have become classics. In stark contrast to Jane Austen's polite country house novels of a similar period, Emily Brontë's 'Wuthering Heights' stands out as a story of torrid passions, haunting spirits and wild, vindictive, behaviour. During this course, students will form a clear understanding of the historical context of the novel and the life of Emily Brontë. This will help them to develop an overall understanding of 'Wuthering Heights' and its significance today. Students will explore the key themes of the novel and the structural and literary devices Brontë utilised. The programme examines the novel from a feminist perspective and encourage students to debate and form their own detailed interpretations of the novel which will give them the confidence to apply such analytical techniques in the future.
