The monologue has become a key part of our culture. On this course, it will be dissected in full and students will be imbued with the confidence to go off and create their own work.
'Fleabag,' 'Sea Wall,' 'Beat the Devil.' Over the last decade or so, the monologue form has become one of the most popular and direct theatrical forms around; a viscerally effective way of getting inside the heads of the most complex characters; a confrontational and deeply entertaining way of communicating with an audience; a cheap alternative if you cannot afford that cast of twenty you have been writing for. On this course, students will explore a variety of monologues from the theatrical canon. From Philip Ridley to Bryony Kimmings, students will examine character, form and voice as well as learning and practising writing exercises, culminating in the writing and performance of their very own mini one-person show! This programme is aimed at beginner and intermediate actors who are looking to improve their craft.
