Flawed Heroes and Magical Mishaps: From Shakespeare to Harry Potter

academic-development

Course Overview

Though they're separated by many years, the work of William Shakespeare shares quite a lot with The Boy Who Lived. On this course, students will look at some of the themes explored in both cultural powerhouses, how they compare, and how we can use contemporary understanding to bring Shakespeare to life! Throughout this course, students will consider key common concepts in-depth and understand how certain characteristics, symbols and themes are parallel in both Shakespeare's work and in the Harry Potter sequence. This course will also help students understand how themes, writing and underlying symbols have evolved over the years but still remain consistent in popular texts.
