This period of Afghanistan's history is a complicated one with many layers. This course breaks it down into digestible chunks, focusing on multiple sources of tension and how they came to be.
This wider world depth study enables students to understand the complex and diverse interests of different groups, races, nations and rogue states in modern history. This course will focus on the conflict in the Gulf and Afghanistan and will seek to show students how and why conflict occurred. Students will be encouraged to question and research multiple sources to assess why it proved difficult to resolve the tensions which arose. This course will also consider the role of key individuals that were responsible for creating these tensions, and the groups that were held accountable for shaping change in the Gulf. This exploration will be accompanied by an in-depth analysis of how Afghanistan was affected by and influenced by international relations within this period.
