Whether it is an uproar, guillotines, financial and political crises, debates, political factions, war, peasants' revolts, women's marches, or ideological movements, the French Revolution certainly has it all. This is a truly exciting, pivotal, and momentous event with repercussions across Europe and the world. During this course, students will be encouraged to engage with all aspects of the Revolution in order to get a grip on the number of moving parts in this period of history. The significance of events will be debated and presented in a relevant and exciting manner. Starting with the Ancien Régime, this course will then explore the Enlightenment before discussing May 1789, the start of the French Revolution. Discussing the war against Europe, political clubs and the end of the monarchy students will gain a wider understanding of the French Revolution and the impact it has had on France today.
