academic-development

Course Overview

Between the cataclysmic conclusion to the Civil War and American ascendency at the end of World War One, domestic society shifted, dictating new ideas and modes of exclusion and citizenship. As American power grew in the second half of the nineteenth-century, racial violence, labour unrest, foreign conflict and challenges to gendered norms all posed renewed critiques to notions of American greatness. At a time in which the United States continues to wrestle with unresolved divides, this course will provide an unparalleled insight into key historical events of the nation's past, which, frustratingly so, remain as raw as ever.
