Course Overview



The French Revolution is one of the most important events in modern history. Its effects are still felt today throughout the world. The Revolution radically changed French society and led to perhaps the real 'First World War'. France was at war with all of its European neighbours at one time and the battlefield reached the New World. The Reign of Terror is synonymous with the French Revolution, its guillotine and the lives of its last King and Queen, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette and Napoleon. This course will cover all the major topics in the French Revolution from the storming of the Bastille (14th July 1789), the creation of the Republic, to the Reign of Terror and the rise and fall of Napoleon. This course will give students a solid understanding of one of the most exciting periods of French and European history.
